Cyprus Climate

Cyprus is known for its sunshine. Over 340 days of the year are sunny.  It is known for its hot summer and dry sky. The winter season starts from November until March, where most of the rain falls in December, January and February. The spring season is mild. Usually the tourist season starts from April, where the temperature is warm. From May through October, the sea is warm, swimming is fantastic, the sky is clear, and best of all, the climate is wonderful. Usually the coast is a little cooler than inland, while the mountains are a bit cooler than all. In winter, the mountains, especially Troodos, is covered by snow.

In other words, Cyprus is the hottest and driest island in the Mediterranean and it enjoys the most days of sun in the year, than any other island there. Extremes of temperatures are rare, meaning Cyprus has something to offer every month of the year, whether it's swimming (as late as November) or enjoying cultural sites and festivals (all year long).

Summer stretches from May to October and means high temperatures, cloudless skies and cooling breezes from the sea. It's the ideal season for swimming, sunbathing and a whole range of water sports from sailing to scuba diving. The days of September and October are still sunny and the water warm enough for comfortable swimming. Basically, it's still summer.

Towards the end of October the weather becomes a bit cooler at night, while the day could still be sunny and somehow hot, even through November. People still swim, while others prefer to have excursions to remote villages, where the view is golden vineyards that cover the villages. Wine making views, and wine tasting are excellent ideas for the excursions.

Although the months of December through February are rainy, and many Mediterranean destinations shut down, yet many Cypriot resorts, pubs, etc... remain open.

By mid February, the orchids are blooming, and the farms and yards are covered with greenery scenes. All the villages look green again, and the temperatures start to rise again. By March the day temperature average 19 C and at night 9 C.

In April and into the middle of May spring is in full force. This is an ideal time for nature hikes and off-road adventures in the pristine Akamas Peninsula.
